Today in Karratha Pilbara Solar Pty Ltd renewable energy company welcomed an announcement of project funding by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan.

Pilbara Solar Director Simon Hawkins attended the $50,000 Regional Economic Development grant announcement.

Mr Hawkins said, “Pilbara Solar is very keen to scale up the development of renewables in the Pilbara, with a fundamental focus on Aboriginal equity ownership and involvement in this greenfields industry.

“We welcome the Pilbara Development Commission’s grant, which will be very helpful for the development of a renewable energy project with an Aboriginal community.”

Pilbara Solar is 25 per cent owned by the Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC), representing Traditional Owners whose lands cover one million square kilometres in WA.  Accompanying Mr Hawkins to the launch was Traditional Owner and Deputy Chair of Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation’s Pilbara Regional Committee, Mrs Doris Eaton.

The company is developing a number of renewable energy projects with industry partners across the region. Pilbara Solar is pleased with this investment and commitment by State Government that will support development of a new and vitally important industry, allowing energy to become more affordable for consumers across the Pilbara.
